Job Description – Firefighter (Volunteer)
DEFINITION
Firefighters with the Department under general supervision, fight fires and perform other related work in responding to alarms and emergency calls for the protection of life and property; perform specialized firefighting duties in connection with the operation of vehicles and equipment enroute and at the scene of the incident.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
A. Respond to fire alarms for the protection of life and property.
B. Use equipment and tools as directed to safely and quickly bring the emergency or other situations under control.
C. Administer first aid when properly trained and certified to do so.
D. Drive various types of fire apparatus to and from the scene.
E. Operate pumping equipment and related apparatus to ensure that necessary water pressure and volume is maintained at all time.
F. Assist with monthly maintenance checks of vehicles and facilities.
G. Ensure that all apparatus and equipment is cleaned and returned to service as soon as possible after an incident.
H. Operate two-way radios
I. Wash and test fire hoses.
J. Work to maintain clean and orderly conditions in and around the fire station.
K. Be familiar with Fire District policy and procedures, fire hazards, and firefighting techniques.
L. Assist with fire prevention activities.
M. Actively participate in prescribed fire training courses and perform related work as required.
N. Performs additional job assignments as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY AND SKILLS
A. Ability to meet and deal with the public in a courteous and professional manner and promote a positive image of the Fire District.
B. Shall complete all district training as required by district policy.
